Gold comes from a variety of sources. You'll obtain Gold by working the tiles around your cities, but other sources are available as well: terrains and improvements, trading posts, districts and buildings, Trade Routes, Barbarian outposts, Tribal Villages, city-states, pillaging enemy improvements, capturing cities, and diplomacy with other civilizations.
